REVISED DUKE’S WHARF PLANS SUBMITTED | 08/08/08

A planning application for the redevelopment of Duke's Wharf in Norwich has been submitted by Targetfollow to Norwich City Council. The proposals which include the retention of the Boardman buildings fronting on to Duke Street, will create a vibrant high-quality mixed-use development providing a mix of offices, residential accommodation, restaurants and cafes immediately adjacent to the River Wensum.

Through a successful collaboration of design ideas between Feilden + Mawson and Art Architecture these exciting plans have been evolved. The retained Boardman Buildings have been integrated into the scheme to ensure their long term vitality and have added a historic flavour to the architecture of the rest of the scheme.

Philip Bodie, partner of lead architects Feilden + Mawson, said “having made the decision to retain the Boardman Buildings this led to a fresh look at the architectural approach for the whole development. This exciting process has resulted in what the team believes to be an exceptional piece of Architecture that will enhance Norwich city centre.”

The design team have also proposed a radical new design for the residential element of the scheme in order to challenge City Centre living aspirations. The 16 residential units will provide a mixture of flats and housing unique within the city.

James Smith, Targetfollow’s development manager, says, “Feedback to our initial concepts has revealed a desire to retain the historic Boardman buildings and in so doing this has created the opportunity to influence the architecture of the overall scheme. Our proposals have been received positively by many consultees and local residents.

We believe our proposals reflect not only what Norwich needs in order to maintain and enhance its business environment within the City Centre but will also result in a new high quality destination for people to live, work and visit”.

The Project Team have also pushed the boundaries environmentally. The new buildings will achieve BREEAM excellence and a low carbon footprint. The residential will achieve sustainable code level 3 as a minimum.

Subject to planning approval, Targetfollow hope to commence enabling works next year with the first occupants moving into the scheme within a few years. One of the first occupiers will be Targetfollow itself, as Duke’s Wharf will become the company’s new UK office.
